[Class 80 (ii)] [See also Groups XXVII and XXVIII] A device for automatically regulating the lead or lag of a driven shaft 7, of, for example, the fuel-injection pump of a Diesel engine, with respect to a driving shaft 1 comprises weights 5 which are mounted on pivots 4 on a plate member 2 attached to the driving shaft 1 and are adapted to rotate about these pivots by centrifugal force against the restraint of springs 8 and engage a member 6 attached to the driven shaft 7 through eccentric faces so that the member 6 and shaft 7 assume positions relative to the driving shaft 1 in accordance with the speed. The angular deviation of the eccentric faces throughout the working range is less than, or does not exceed substantially, the angle of friction between the coacting surfaces so that the arrangement is irreversible, i.e. the reaction from the driven element 6 does not tend to rotate the weighted members against the action of the centrifugal force or the controlling springs. The Provisional Specification states that the mechanism can also be applied to the timing of the electrical ignition system of an internalcombustion engine.
