[Class 130] In a pipe having a spigot-and-socket joint, a metal sleeve 15 is embedded in the walls of the socket member 2 before boring the socket or shaping the outer surface. An annular recess is first cut in the socket member to assist the insertion of the sleeve 15, which has a flange 16 appearing as a narrow metal band between the parts 2, 3. A metal sleeve 10 is screwed at 9 into the spigot member 4 on the end of the mouthpiece 3, and has a diametral groove 14 to assist in screwing it into the mouthpiece. Specification 200,372, [Class 130], is referred to.
