Abstract
452,012. Cathode-ray oscillographs. NICOLL, F. H., 17, The Drive, Ickenham, near Uxbridge, Middlesex. Feb. 13, 1935, No. 4672. [Class 37] [See also Group XL] In a cathode-ray tube having in succession along the path of the ray a cathode 4, electrodes 8, 9 positive relatively to the cathode for accelerating and directing the electrons, means for deflecting the ray and a screen 11, two values of deflection sensitivity are provided by means of a switch 27 so arranged that in one setting thereof the ratio of the potential of the electrode 9 nearest the screen 11 to the potential of the adjacent electrode 8 is the inverse of the ratio in the other setting. As shown, a rectifier 14 and potentiometer 12, 13 maintains the electrode 8 at 400 volts positive and the 2-pole switch 27 enables the electrode 9 to be maintained at either 200 or 800 volts, good focusing of the ray being secured in both cases. The electrode 9 may be a silvering on the wall of the tube.
