Abstract

[Class 20 (iii)] A window having sashes balanced one against the other by rack-and-pinion mechanism and in which the upper sash is adapted to move faster when opening than the lower sash by means of a coupling pinion 9, smaller than the rack-engaging pinions 5, 10, is characterized in that the lower sash is adapted to be hinged inwardly on lugs 24 on the sash and sliding L-shaped bolts 22 on the frame. The right-hand bead 25 is removable for the hinging movement, being secured to the frame by slotted plates 26 and screws. The pinion gear is locked during hinging movement by a milled-headed screwed pin 15 adapted to be entered between the teeth of the pinion 5 on each side.
