Abstract

453,281. Hinges. PATTERSON, D. E., Bydown, East End Lane, Ditchling, JAMES, F. H., 68, High Street, Brighton, PATTERSON, J., 5, Sackville Street, Hove, and TREGASKISS, A. E., 11, Atlingworth Street, and PATTERSON, S., 5, New Steine, both in Brighton, all in Sussex. March 8, 1935, No. 7301. Addition to 413,871. [Class 65 (ii)] The invention described in the parent Specification is modified by mounting the pivot pins and their operating and locking means on the fixed frame and providing the sockets in or on the door or window. In the arrangement shown in edge view, a window carries at each side a pair of sockets b for engagement by L-shaped pins d working in guides i on the frame and carried by sliding bars f which have at their adjacent ends rack teeth for operation by a pinion on the spindle of a handle m. The upper ends of the upper bars f have V-notches for engagement by the ends of a locking bar (not shown) sliding across the top of the frame, this bar being of such length that it always engages one or other of the notches ; when the pins at one side of the window are withdrawn from their sockets, therefore, those at the other side are held in their engaged position. In order to prevent projection of the withdrawn pins while the window is open, which would allow retraction of the other pins and complete removal of the window, the locking bar is formed at its middle part with two notches which are selectively engaged by a lug on a spring bolt s so that the locking bar can only be moved when the bolt s is pressed back by a lug u on the window when the latter is in the closed position.
