Abstract
448,557. Window and door sills; draughtexcluders. JONES, M., 111, Mill Street, Macclesfield, Cheshire. Dec. 7, 1934, No. 35265. [Class 20 (iii)] A water- and draught - excluding sill for doors and windows consists of a trough shaped member of width equal to the thickness of the door and having a raised outer surface with projecting ledge 5x and an inner rim against which the bottom of the door engages. The sill is preferably of cast metal and has end fixing lugs which do not project beyond the rear face of the sill and the bottom is recessed to make a sealed joint with the window or door opening. The sill is provided with outwardly directed drainage passages 3 and may have a rubber sealing strip 28 mounted in a metal channel 29 which is supported by arcuate ribs 2x in the sill and provided with inturned rims, the inner one 32 being engaged by the door &c. when closed. The sill has end slotted recesses or guides 33 in which rest spigots on the rubber strip and channel. A hollow rubber sealing strip attached to a frame of I-section metal bars 15 for the joint at the lower sides of the door and sill may be combined with the sill and attached thereto bv hooks and bars 13 in recesses of the sill and clamped to the sides of the door frame by bolts 22, Fig. 7, or by cam levers 25, Fig. 6, engaging brackets 26 to which they are anchored by chains 27. The metal channel and rubber sealing strip may be adjustable by a cam in the sill actuated by a link projecting through the wall of the sill.
