448,443. Indicating-apparatus; clocks. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and BRAY, G. R. R., Bawnmore House, Rugby. Dec. 6, 1934, No. 35079. [Class 139] [See also Group XIX] A pointer moving over a dial is illuminated by a light source situated substantially at its pivot, the light being reflected from the inner end face and the upper face of the pointer and refracted through it longitudinally. In the embodiment described, the hands 3 of a clock are formed of glass or a transparent or translucent synthetic resin, and light from a lamp 1 secured to the minute hand spindle 2 is reflected from the upper surfaces and inclined ends 3<a>, 3<b>, of the hands and refracted through them along the length thereof. The outer ends of the hands are undercut, light passing therefrom to illuminate the chapters 4 by internal reflection, the chapters comprising prisms of the same material as the hands formed individually or moulded in one block integral with the dial surface. Another lamp may be situated behind the dial to illuminate the chapters.
