819,175. Illuminating instrument dials. FAIREY AVIATION CO. Ltd. Aug 14, 1957 [May 14, 1956], No. 15017/56. Class 75(4) [Also in Group XXXI] Arrangements for illuminating instrument dials comprise a removable panel 12 of sheet material in front of and spaced from the instruments 10 which may be carried on a common panel 11, and having apertures 14 corresponding in size and position to the dials and one or more lamps 15 supported by the panel 12 in the space between the panel 12 and the supporting panel 11 The rear face of the panel 12 may be polished to form a reflecting surface or may be matt black. The edges of the apertures may have flanges 18 inclined at 60 degrees to the plane of panel 12 to prevent light from the lamps travelling directly cut of the apertures to reflect light on to the dials. The lamp bulbs 16 may be housed in blocks 19 of transparent plastic which may be coloured e.g. red. The front faces of the blocks 19 may have an opaque coating with translucent lettering visible through registering apertures 21 in the panel 12. In some cases, two blocks having lamps therein may be connected by a neck in which the translucent lettering is formed.
