653,663. Miniature diagram panels. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., PETER, L. H., and SHEPPARD, E. A. May 13, 1948, No. 13148. [Class 105] A miniature diagram panel for railway signalling purposes or for showing conductor networks is made to present a concave surface so disposed that no light from an extraneous source is reflected into an observer's eye from the panel surface. As shown, the diagram panel 1 carried by the control desk 3 has its centre of curvature at 7. The pencil of lines 8, 9 from an observer's eye 5 to the panel limits are reflected as lines 10 and 11 which meet a surface 12; any light to be reflected into the observer's eye from the panel must emanate from such surface and this, being coloured black, no such reflection arises. The invariable details of the track are shown on the surface of the panel and are made luminous by edge-on illumination of the panel with internal reflection of the light within the transparent material of the panel, while variable information is given by strips of transparent material placed immediately behind or in front of the panel and likewise rendered luminous by internallyreflected light from appropriate sources as and when required, as described in Specification 650,492.
