Abstract

498,857. Decorative lamps. FREI, JUN., J. July 16, 1937, No. 19794. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1936. [Class 75 (iv)] In a decorative lamp, an artificial candle comprises a rod r of transparent light-transmitting material having at one end a tip portion t of generally conical form with a concave lateral surface and made of light-transmitting material having a predetermined critical angle. The tip portion may be made of crown glass, it may be formed integrally with the rod, and its base diameter may be equal to or greater than that of the rod. The lateral surface of the tip is so curved that light rays transmitted by the rod in a direction parallel to its axis are totally reflected and produce a brilliantly illuminated reduced image I of the tip portion within itself. The formation of this image is described in detail in the Specification. The lower end of the rod r is preferably flat and it may be mounted in a flanged rubber bushing 14 in the removable cover 13 of a preferably opaque casing 10 containing a light source 12.
