Abstract

385,527. Overhead &c. lamps. WALMSLEY, E., Whispering Pines, Stockdove Wood, Cleveleys, Blackpool. June 14, 1932, No. 16739. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv).] Shades.-A light-diffusing member, for use in lamps for lighting other than driving lamps for vehicles, comprises a main disc or shield and a secondary shield of hollow form, each of the shields being formed from transparent material with the surface rendered translucent or light diffusing by means of a layer of granulated light-diffusing material. The main shield comprises two glass, celluloid, or other transparent sheets 9, spaced apart by strips 11 and a distance piece 19, and enclosing a layer 10 of broken or faceted glass. The secondary shield comprises two frusto-conical members 13, 14 which enclose the light-diffusing material 12. The two shields are held together by means of a nut 18 and bolt 17. The screen is shown applied to a lamp for illuminating rooms, buildings, &c. A reflector 1 carries a shade 5, preferably of opal glass, which supports the diffusing member and, if desired, a coloured or clear glass bowl 20, by means of a band 21. In a modification, the secondary shield is mounted on the main shield with its smaller and closed end upwardly, connection being by nut and bolt or by integral flanges on the secondary shield.
