Abstract
297,691. Burns, W. A. March 25, 1927. Signs.-A stencil or other display backed by a sheet of prismatic glass and illuminated by diffused light, such as daylight, is illuminated at night by means of a lamp or lamps and reflectors arranged outside the daylight beam. The stencil &c. A and prismatic glass sheet B are illuminated by a downwardly and frontwardly directed daylight beam E, E<1>, which after refraction through the prismatic glass, emerges horizontally as a beam F. F<1>. For night illumination. a lamp L<1> may be arranged at the top of the sign, in conjunction with a reflector R<1> at the bottom of the sign. A rearwardly arranged lamp L<2> and reflector R<2> may be used. The lamp L<3>, Fig. 2, and reflector R may be arranged at the lower edge and to the rear of the sign, a diffusing glass sheet D being interposed between the lamp and the stencil. This construction may be arranged as a duplex or double faced sign. The stencil A, Fig. 4, and prismatic glass B may be separated at their lower edges, the lamp L<4> and reflector R being arranged between them.
