Abstract
392,608. Luminous signs. ROBERTS, H., 42, John Street, Woollahra, near Sydney, Australia. Nov. 19, 1931, No. 32066. Convention date, Jan. 7. [Class 3 (ii).] A sign comprises a front stencil 6 having slots 7 with rounded ends forming the edges of the characters to be displayed, a casting 9 containing lamps 15, and light colouring and diffusing means disposed behind the stencil, the whole being designed to simulate a neon sign. As shown in Fig. 3, the plate 6 is backed by a transparent coloured sheet 10, a diffusing sheet 11 which may also be coloured if desired, and an opaque plate 12 having a cut-out portion over the area of the sign, the sheets preferably being slightly spaced. The inner faces 14 of the casing constitute irregular reflecting surfaces. The sign may be doublesided, in which case prismatic reflectors are disposed between the lamps.
