Abstract

316,705. Woods, R. S. Nov. 21, 1928. Signs; name and number plates.-A sign comprises two superposed sheets of glass with a stencil between them, one face of the rear sheet formed with ribs, lens-shaped markings, or the like, the rear sheet being backed by a separate sheet of crinkled or crumpled tin foil acting as a reflector. Daylight is renected from the foil through the transparent letters of the stencil, while artificial light is provided at one edge to pass through the sheets of glass and emerge at the transparent portions of the stencil. Fig. 1 shows the stencil formed in the back face of the front sheet a, and e is the sheet of crinkled tin-foil. The electric lamp h is surrounded by a reflector g and metal casing f. In a modified form the sheets are set up in a metal frame and are secured by an additional back member bearing on rubber corner pieces.
