Signs, supporting and securing; name and number plates.- In signs of the type wherein either the charracters or the background comprise two transparent sheets between which is located powdered mica or like sparkling material, the two sheets, which are preferably of flexible material such as celluloid, are cemented together to form a composite sheet. Such material transmits light as well as reflecting it, and may be suitably coloured. As shown in Fig. 2, letters 1 are cut from this material, and may be mounted exchangeably in a frame 2, extensions 6 engaging the channel members of the frame and serving to space the letters. Alternatively, the letters may each be provided with a skeleton frame, or mounted direct on a flat or curved surface. Fig. 6 shows the use of the material as a background 20 on which is mounted an opaque block-letter 19, the whole being removably supported in a frame 21. In a further construction, the block letter is replaced by a cut-out stencil through which the sparkling background is visible.
