453,542. Signs. MADAN, E. K., 430, Richmond Avenue, Maplewood, New Jersey, U.S.A. July 8, 1935, No. 19524. Convention date, July 11, 1934. [Class 3 (ii)] A sign comprising translucent embossed characters projecting through openings of corresponding contours in an opaque or translucent backing, is characterized in that the backing is formed of canvas or like fibrous material and the characters are secured to the backing by peripheral flange portions thereon which are secured to the rear face of the backing by an adhesive in the presence of heat and under pressure. The Figure shows an embodiment in which an embossed celluloid character 13, projecting through a canvas sheet 10, is secured by flanges 16 to the rear of the sheet. The isolated pieces 12 of the sheet are secured to the character. A plurality of characters may be mounted on a single sheet and -secured at the front of an illuminated casing so as to simulate a neon sign. In another arrangement, the characters are mounted on separate sheets in a rectangular frame which is provided with partitions concealing the abutting edges of the sheets.
