Abstract

Signs.-A sign for day and night use comprises a casing 6 with reflecting surface 6a and lamp i and a series of plates 1 - - 4 of which 1 is a translucent diffusing screen of roughened glass such as '' Muranese " or " Artie ripple" varieties, 2 is the advertisement-carrying stencil, 3 is a transparent mirror and 4 an optional sheet of opal glass. Daylight, or exterior artificial light thrown upon the sign face, is reflected back through the stencil by the mirror 3, while artificial light from the interior passes through all four sheets to the observer. In some cases the plate 2 is dispensed with and the advertisement formed on the back or within the material of the plate 1. The surface 6a may be formed to act additionally as a reflecting means for illuminating a shop window beneath the casing. The sign may also be double-sided. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the sign plates are adjustable angularly about the hinge 5a and are fixed in the adjusted position ,by the pin-and-slot mechanism 8, 10.
