Abstract
336,240. Edison Swan Electric Co., Ltd., and Lines, H. E. July 4, 1929. Signs; name and number plates. -A sign panel comprises opaque portions 10 and transparent or translucent portions 10<1>, the latter being closely backed by perforated metallic foil 13 and suitably tinted if desired. The panel may be of glass or other transparent material coated with pigment or otherwise to form the opaque parts 10, or of opaque material such as wood or metal, with the parts 10<1> cut out and the openings filled with similarly shaped pieces of transparent material. The sign may be illuminated from the rear, preferably by an inclined or curved reflector, the face of which may be of metallic foil and may be perforated, stippled or embossed to produce a changing effect in conjunction with the front perforated foil as an observer passes the sign; this effect may be enhanced by giving a definite oscillatory movement to the reflector by means of a solenoid, crank-shaft or cam.
