Changing by alteration in view-point of observer.-A sign, advertisement, facia, tablet or the like viewed by reflected light comprises in one form, Fig. 1, a rear reflector c of metal or silvered or gilded glass or the like, embossed with pyramidal or other protuberances, and a transparent coloured stencil b, so that the letters &c. are seen in the natural colour of the reflector in a coloured surround. Front and rear sheets a of plain glass, celluloid, or gelatine and a frame c may be added. The protuberances may have their apexes flattened, rounded, or removed. In large signs, the facets of the protuberances may be irregular or fluted, and each series of facets may be differently coloured, so that different colour effects may be seen from different angles. In a modification, the stencil is of embossed metal coated with translucent paint or oxidized or otherwise darkened. In a further form, the sign comprises a rear reflector such as c, a transparent coloured sheet of celluloid &c., opaque letters of embossed reflecting material, and front and rear glasses; or the opaque letters may be replaced by two stencils with openings of different sizes, one coloured and the other having a bright surface to show a bright border to the lettering &c. The Provisional Specifications state also that the cut-out parts of the stencil may be covered by larger letters of gelatine &c., which may have circular holes; a stencil may be secured to a single sheet of glass by liquid gelatine; the reflector may be at a distance behind the front member and angularly adjustable; and the sign may be illuminated.
