Abstract

402,648. Lenses. FRASER, N. F., Wood Drive, and PEARSON, N., Gladwin Avenue, both in Capilano, British Columbia, Canada. March 29, 1933, No. 9472. [Class 75 (ii).] A lamp comprises in combination a source of light, a light diffusing medium consisting of a plurality of elongated convexed surfaces arranged substantially side by side, and a transparent or translucent screen, which is treated to produce colour and diffusion effects. In the lamp shown in Fig. 3, the light diffusing medium consists of rods or of tubes 18, containing a coloured translucent solid or liquid 19, arranged circularly or rectangularly. The screen comprises a number of cylindrically arranged spiral strips 15, which have prismatically facetted surfaces and may be tinted, or comprises a plurality of prisms. The tubes 18 and strips 15 are supported between a base 1 and canopy 8, which are similarly constructed. The base 1 comprises an annular channel member 2 with resilient packing 3, a central reflector 4, and a closure 5. Ventilating apertures 6, 7 are formed in the closure 5 and in the channel member 2 and packing 3. In the lamp for panel or strip lighting, shown in Fig. 4, the tubes 18 alternate with plain or coloured strips of glass 21, similar to the strips 16, and the strips 16 forming the screen are supported on a sheet of ground glass 23.
