Abstract

462,312. Lamp shades and reflectcrs. TROUGHTON & YOUNG, Ltd., and READ, A. B. Sept. 5, 1935, No. 24821. [Class 75 (ii)] Apertures in the external surface of an opaque or translucent lamp shade or reflector which restricts direct vision of the light source, are each provided with a light trap visible through the aperture and including an inwardly directed lip formed on the shade or reflector around a part of the aperture. As shown, the apertures are annular and lie between three aluminium elements 2, 3, 4 which form zones of the same sphere. The elements 3, 4 are each provided with a lip 6, illuminated by light reflected from the element below. The inner surfaces of the elements 2, 3, 4 and the outer surfaces of the lips 6 are sprayed matt-white. A diffusing glass bowl 8 and shade 14 are provided. The elements 3, 4 are supported from the element 2 by arms 7. The element 2 is screwed to a disc 12 which is carried by arms 11. A standard lamp is also described in which the reflector is substantially conical and has its mouth closed by a " swan reflector " or other diffusing glass shade. The apertures may be closed with a translucent substance.
