Abstract

Overhead lamps.-In an overhead lamp, the generating curve of a reflector d, in the form of a concave surface of revolution, is such that all reflected rays from a 'substantially point source of light e, arranged on the axis g of rotation of the reflector, cross the axis between points such as h, i so as to form a shadowless, circular field of intense illumination f above an operating-table a or the like. The source of light may comprise a light-dispersing electric lamp bulb, or a clear bulb may be enclosed in a cover of frosted or opal glass. In the form shown in Fig. 2, a clear bulb e is .enclosed in a cover j of heat-absorbing glass which is provided with a reflecting zone k to intercept widely divergent rays and to return them to the reflector d, and the lamp casing l is enclosed by a disc m of wire-reinforced glass.
