Abstract
489,010. Suspended lamps. HOLOPHANE, Ltd. Sept. 30, 1936, No. 26491. Void. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1935. [Class 75 (ii)] A light-transmitting globe or bowl, adapted to intercept light emitted from a source in a hemisphere, comprises a spherical portion surrounded by an annular dished portion which intercepts the more widely divergent light and is so shaped as to transmit and deviate said light towards the axis of the bowl. This bowl may be fitted with a reflecting cover of a similar shape so as to form an envelope in the shape of a sphere circumscribed by a projecting ring which is wedgeshaped in radial cross-section. The bowl may be made of diffusing glass, or it may be formed with refracting prisms, whilst the cover may be made of diffusing glass or it may be opaque or formed with reflecting prisms. The projecting ring may be horizontal or inclined, and the axis of the light source may be vertical or coincident with the optical axis of the envelope. The Figure shows a two-part prismatic glass envelope comprising spherical segments 74, 75 and projecting parts 76, 77, The segment 74 is formed on its inner or outer surface with concentric refracting prisms and on its outer or inner surface with radial or parallel prisms. The segment 75 is formed with reflecting prisms which return the rays to the light source 70. The section 76 is formed on its inner surface with concentric prisms of the refracting or single-reflection type, and on its outer surface with laterally spreading or like prisms. The section 77 is formed with concentric or radial prisms. Specification 412,053 is referred to.
