Abstract

456,520. Lenses. COOKE, A. G., 101, Brondesbury Road, Kilburn, London. April 9, 1935, No. 10968. [Class 75 (ii)] In a vehicle lamp, searchlight, kinema or like projector, fitted with an annular lens 1 which in radial cross-section has three bounding surfaces, the inner surface 3 is curved so as to collect divergent rays from a light source 11 and refract them into directions parallel to one another within the lens so that they are totally reflected by the outer surface 5 and projected through the front surface 6 as a beam of rays parallel with or convergent to the axis of the lamp. The outer surface 5 may be slightly convex, whilst the front surface 6 may be perpendicular or inclined to the axis. The lens 1 may be provided with a separate or integral central lens 9 of any known form, with or without an additional lens 12. The lamp may be fitted with a spherical reflector 10, or with an ellipsoidal reflector. A form of lens system suitable for use with an electric arc, and including a short focus concave lens, also is shown in the Specification.
