Abstract

314,226. Benjamin Electric, Ltd., and Harrison, H. T. July 6, 1928. Overhead lamps.-An overhead lamp is provided with a reflector 2 carrying a glass bowl 1 having an upwardly extending coned surface 8 arranged at such an angle as to reflect rays of light 10 through the upwardly inclined sides of the bowl to augment the illumination of distant parts. The top of the coned surface 8 may be flat, as shown, or it may be in the form of a spherical depression to accommodate an electric lamp bulb. The bowl may be made entirely of clear glass or parts of it may be made of opal glass or be frosted or otherwise made diffusing. The bowl may be secured to the reflector by means of a hinge at one side and a fastening at the other, or by means of a clamping ring 5, a felt or other gasket 7 being arranged between the flange 6 of the bowl and the brading 4 of the reflector to form a dust-tight joint. The reflector 2 may have a dispersive surface and may be provided with a skirt portion 3 giving a cut-off of about 20‹ to the horizontal.
