Abstract

298,447. Stephens, A. J., (Rolph, T. W.). April 3, 1928. Ceiling lamps.-A lens element 2 surrounding the light source 1 reduces the divergence of the light in vertical planes and an enclosing globe comprises a reflector 3 which directs the light vertically on to a bottom plate 4 for distribution. the upper part of the reflector having a light transmitting portion. The lens 2 of cup shape with a prismatic outer surface is held in place against a ledge 14 on the reflector by a, spring 11 and the bottom plate is fastened to the reflector by clips 12. On its inner surface the reflector 3 is of prismatic form giving downward reflection of typical rays C, D and the bottom plate may be constructed as described in Specification 258,482. [Class 75 (ii), Lamp chimneys &c.], to distribute the light uniformly as at C<1>, D'. Light directed upon the bottom of the cup as at G, H is refracted downwardly and distributed at G<1>, H<1>. Rays such as A, B, falling upon the upper portion of the globe are transmitted towards the ceiling while rays such as E, F falling upon reflecting prism between the points 6, 9 on the cup are directed towards the reflector 3 at such angles that they are transmitted upwardly by the prisms of the reflector and add to the illumination of the ceiling.
