449,626. Reflectors for direct or indirect lighting. DOWNER, G. V., 5, Lansdowne Place, Guilford Street, St. Pancras, London..Jan. 11, 1935, No. 1023. [Class 75 ii)] In a ceiling, wall, or pedestal lamp for indirect or direct lighting, a light source 1 is mounted in a paraboloidal or other substantially bell-shaped reflector 2 which directs a considerable part of the light in a more or less concentrated beam and extends well beyond the source, and a tapering deflector 3 is placed axially in the path of the beam with its base beyond the mouth of the reflector and its apex extending close to the light source so that it reflects most of the beam outwards. A separate reflector may be provided at the apex of the reflector 2 to form the concentrated beam, or, as shown, the central part of the reflector may be specular. The remainder of the surface of the reflector 2 may be polished or matt, and may become approximately cylindrical towards the mouth. The space between the deflector 3 and the reflector rim may be covered with transparent or translucent material, e.g. diffusing glass. The deflector 3 may be solid or hollow, opaque or semi-transparent, and may have holes or slots for the passage of light. When it is hollow, its base may be covered with lightdiffusing glass. It may be conical, frustoconical, or pyramidal, and may have straight, convex, or concave sides. Specification 404,695 is referred to.
