Abstract

A mushroom/toadstool shaped lamp comprising separately moulded top (1 fig 1) and bottom parts (2 fig 1). The top part is preferably dome 12 shaped and allows light to pass through. The bottom part preferably comprises a base 3 and an upstanding stem 4, a bulb 9 is placed on the top of the stem 4. The base may be provided with pegs 7 or other means to fasten the lamp to the ground. A low voltage cable 8 may enter the base to supply power to the lamp.

Description

OUTDOOR LIGHT TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to an ornamental light which is specifically intended for outdoor use, although indoor use is not precluded.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention proposes an outdoor light which is cast or moulded in the shape of a toadstool.
The toadstool comprises separately moulded top and bottom parts.
The bottom part preferably comprises a base and an upstanding stem. The base is preferably provided with pegs or other means of fastening the light to the ground. A low voltage cable may enter the base to supply power to a lamp fitting mounted at the top of the stem.
The top part preferably has a domed upper surface and a substantially flat undersurface and allows light to pass through. The undersurface preferably has an opening in the middle for registration with the lamp fitting.
Preferably connecting means are provided for joining the top and bottom parts. In one form the connecting means comprises a collar for attachment to the top of the stem surrounding the lamp fitting. The collar preferably has a plurality of radially projecting arms which are secured to the undersurface of the top part.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The following description and the accompanying drawings referred to therein are included by way of non-limiting example in order to illustrate how the invention may be put into practice. In the drawings: Figure 1 is a general view of a light in accordance with the invention, Figure 2 is a similar view showing further detail of the light, Figure 3 is a bottom view of the top part of the light, and Figure 4 is a plan view of a connector for joining the top and bottom parts.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Referring to Fig. 1, the light is formed in two separate hollow parts, a top part 1 and a bottom part 2, which are separately cast or moulded of plastics in the shape of a toadstool.
The bottom part 2 includes a generally planar base 3 and an upstanding stem 4 which is moulded with an integral decorative annular collar 5. As shown in Fig. 2, the base 3 is formed with three or four through-holes 6 through which pegs 7 or similar anchoring devices can be inserted for fastening the light to the ground. A low voltage cable 8 enters the base and travels up the inside of the stem 4 to supply power to a lamp fitting 9 which is mounted in a circular top wall 10 at the top of the stem for receiving a low voltage light bulb, typically 12 volts a.c.
Whilst the base part 2 will generally be formed of coloured opaque plastics the top part 1 is formed of a material which, whilst coloured, is sufficiently thin for light to pass through. The top part 1 has a domed upper surface 12 and a substantially flat undersurface 13 which has an opening 14 in the middle (Fig. 3) for receiving the lamp fitting 9. It will also be noted that three circumferentially spaced mounting lugs 15 are provided on the undersurface 13 for attachment of a connecting member 18. The connecting member is also shown in Fig. 4 and comprises a collar 19 which is secured to the top of the stem 4 surrounding the lamp fitting 9, e.g. by means of self-tapping screws. The collar has three radially projecting arms 20 which end in rings 21 which, in turn, are secured to the lugs 15 using self-tapping screws or bolts and wing nuts 22 for example, so that the top part can easily be removed to get access to the lamp fitting 9.
When powered via the cable 8 the light from the bulb in fitting 9 illuminates the top part 1 to light a garden area for example. The lamp can, of course, be used indoors or in any other area where safe decorative lighting is required.
More than one toadstool could be provided on a single base.
It will be appreciated that the features disclosed herein may be present in any feasible combination. Whilst the above description lays emphasis on those areas which, in combination, are believed to be new, protection is claimed for any inventive combination of the features disclosed herein.
