[Class 75 (iv)] A vehicle lamp is provided with a hollow member a made of glass or other transparent or translucent material and adapted to enclose the upper front portion of the electric lamp bulb b, the member a having formed on its outer and/or inner side refractive surfaces e so arranged that in or near a vertical plane containing the longitudinal axis of the beam, the light emerging from the member a is directed downwardly towards that axis, and in or near a horizontal plane containing said axis the light is caused to diverge outwardly in both directions away from the axis. The member a may be in the form of a segment of a sphere or of an ellipsoid, and may be secured in position by wire supports c, d.
