Abstract

[Class 139] [See also Group XIX] In a fixed dial and moving pointer type of indicating instrument, for example a clock, illuminated by a lamp located centrally in front of the dial, the dial as a whole or at least for those parts providing indications, is concave. As shown, applied to a clock, the time indicating elements 11, Fig. 2, project from the plate 10, and their concave outer surfaces are preferably made highly reflecting while the plate 10 is made dull black. The hour hand 12 is mounted on a sleeve 13 and the minute hand 14 on a sleeve 15 which also carries a holder for an electric lamp 17 having a concave reflector 18, the leads for the lamp passing through the spindle 15 to slip rings 20 engaged by brushes 21. Alternatively, one connection to the lamp may be made through the clock framework. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 4, the complete dial 22 is concave and provided with light reflecting patches 23 to form the hour indications.
