Abstract

203,478. Meyer, A. W. July 29, 1922. Charts.-A star chart for educational purposes and for use in the dark comprises a fixed dial a with a 24-hour scale a<1> in luminous paint and with a slot a<2> at the left-hand side, and a revolving disc b behind the disc a and marked with dates visible through the slot a<2>, the pivot of the disc b extending through to the front of the disc a and carrying a smaller disc c marked in luminous paint with a pointer c<1> and with suitable circumpolar stars. The position of the stars at midnight on any date is found by turning the projecting edge cf the disc b until the date appears at the slot a<2>; the sidereal time is given by the pointer c<1> and scale a<1> when the disc b is turned to a position corresponding to the actual position of the stars in the sky, and the clocktime is given by the difference in hours between these two positions of the disc b. Instructions for finding the Pole star and for converting sidereal time into clock time may be placed on the chart.
