Abstract

237,950. Berrill, R. F. April 9, 1924. Geographical clocks and watches. - A watch or clock to indicate the meridian of longitude at which it is a given time, comprises a scale a<1> divided into 36 parts and a hand b travelling over it in 24 hours. Unit degrees of longitude are indicated by a disc c with divisions 0 ... 9 thereon intermittently driven through one division in 4 minutes, Further subdivisions of tenths of a degree are indicated by a balanced hand d making a complete revolution in 4 minutes. The arrangement of the gearing is shown in Fig. 2. the disc c being driven by a spring n on the arbour of the wheel when intermittently released by the 10-toothed star-wheel m and holding spring o. A Zenithal map of the world is drawn on the dial having its north pole at the centre. According to the Provisional Specification, the unit degrees may be indicated bv a hand travelling over a scale concentric with the outer scale a'.
