Abstract

446,771. Centrifugal pumps; jointmaking packing. WORTHINGTON-SIMPSON, Ltd., Newark-on-Trent, and MAIN, J., and SOUTHERN, J., Queen's House, Kingsway, London. Jan. 8, 1935, No. 693. [Classes 110 (i) and 122 (iii)] An air bell depending from the motor casing of a submersible pump is provided with an inspection plate 2a. The priming pump 5 is mounted either on the casing of the main pump or on the side of the bell and is driven from the main shaft 4 by a bevel gearing 5a. Air is circulated through the motor casing and cooling pipes 1f by a fan 1h. Alternatively the motor casing is waterjacketed and water circulated by the priming pump. A watertight joint is formed by a washer 6a and an annular groove 6b. The joint is tested by an air pump and a pressure gauge 6c. Communication between the two sides of the washer is effected by a series of apertures. Specification 406,906 is referred to.
