Abstract

445,630. Gas distribution; varying pressure locally. CROFT, C. M., 47, Lytton Grove, Putney, London, and BUXTON, R. H., 7, Kingsdown Road, Epsom, Surrey. Nov. 26,1934,No. 33943. [Class 54] [See also Group XI] A feeder cylinder c containing compressed air or gas, at a pressure of, say, 2000 lbs. per square inch, is connected through a governor f, reducing the pressure to, say, 5 lbs. per square inch, to an injector g for drawing gas from the town main a and raising its pressure to the pressure required to supply a high pressure lamp b or group of lamps, say, 90 inches water gauge. The injector may consist of a spherical chamber formed with nipples j, j', j<2> connected respectively to the town gas supply pipe a<1>, the compressed air or gas supply pipe k, and the lamp supply pipe l. The nipples j<1>, j<2> are fitted with convergentdivergent nozzles m, n which are adjustable axially relatively to one another. The pipe a<1> is fitted with a non-return valve h and a stop-cock s which may be a three-way cock allowing gas to be taken from the town mains and compressed by a portable plant for recharging the cylinder c. In a modification, compressed air from the cylinder c is charged with atomized oil before entering the injector g.
