Abstract
In the manufacture of rubber thread with a fine fibre core by extruding the fibre and an aqueous dispersion of rubber, the extrusion takes place directly into a coagulating bath. The fibre may be positioned in the extrusion orifice by a loop of wire, and may be central, or disposed near to the surface of the thread, which latter is advantageous if the fibre is subsequently to be removed. Animal or vegetable fibres such as silk, rayon, cotton, wool, may be employed, and they may be in the form of single filaments, or yarns, or a fine core with a layer wound thereon. Such threads are sufficiently inextensible for weaving, spinning, &c., but on stretching, the fibres, or the core, are ruptured, and the thread becomes elastic.
