Abstract
A solution for spinning filaments comprises a mixture of latex and a solution prepared by dissolving epidermal animal fibres, e.g. hair, wool, silk, fur, feathers, in a caustic alkali, removing the liquor and dissolving the resultant compound in dilute ammonia liquor. Vulcanizing agents may be included up to 5 per cent of the latex. The preferred proportions are such as to yield a filament containing 25 per cent fibre and 75 per cent rubber. The solution may be spun into a coagulating bath and over a heated godet wheel to effect partial vulcanization, and then washed, dried and reeled.
