Abstract

450,915. Reeling-machines. VISCOSE CO., Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Allen, G. M. ; Moylan, and Long, F. F.; Chester, both in Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Nov. 12, 1935, No. 31304. Convention date, April 10. [Class 120 (ii)] Wet rayon which has been spun by a wet-spinning process into a cake is led on to a swift of skeleton construction, and passage of air radially outward between the supports of the swift is prevented by maintaining a flexible impervious band over the supports and under the yarn during the reeling operation whereby concentration of acid and crystallization of salts are avoided. The band may be endless and of smooth external surface, and it may be of the same width as the length of the yarn supports of the swift. It may be secured permanently to the supports and move inwardly with the supports when the swift is collapsed. The band may be of rubber. The skeins may be wound in open diamond fashion and laced, or wound to form closed packages. For the subsequent wet treatments the wound yarns are removed from the swifts and wrapped preferably in knitted rayon fabric having the wales in the direction of the yarn of the skeins. As shown in Fig. 4, a skein 12 is wound on an impervious band 10 secured round the bars 7 of a swift. The band is flexible and may be cemented or vulcanized to the bars 7. Fig. 3 shows the swift in collapsed position. The arms of the swift are pivoted as shown. Two or more skeins may be wound on a single swift. Specification 450,914 is referred to.
