442,310. Latches. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., Cowley, Oxford, and TITMUSS, C. S. W., 26, Rosebery Road, Smethwick, Staffordshire. Oct. 26, 1934, No. 30717. [Class 44] A latch for a refrigerator door &c. comprises a spring-pressed latch mounted on the door jamb or the door and adapted to be moved out of the path of a cammed striker plate by a direct thrust imparted from a handle mounted respectively on the door or door jamb. A latch 15 having a bevelled end or carrying a ball or a roller 16 is slidably mounted in a cylindrical sleeve 13 on the door jamb and moves under control of a spring 44 within limits set by a screw 14 moving in a slot in the cylinder. When the door is shut the roller 16 engages a slope 46 on a striking plate 43 carried by the door and maintains the door tightly closed against a sealing strip 47. To open the door, a handle 57 is moved to project a member 39 against the end of the latch to force the latter out of the striking plate, the member 39 having an inclined end which forms a continuation of an inclined surface 45 on the striking plate so that the pressure of the roller 16 assists in opening the doors.
