[Class 44] A fastening for doors, and particularly for heavy doors are to be an airtight fit, as for refrigerators and cold rooms, comprises a bolt 3 slidable in a casing 1 mounted on the door 2, the bolt having a roller nose 7, a spring 5 urging the bolt towards shut position, and a lever handle 12 pivoted in the casing at 11., the lever handle carrying a roller 21 spaced from the pivot 11 and engaging a slot 16, 17 in the bolt. The arrangement is such that in the raised position of the handle the roller 21 engages the horizontal portion 16 of the bolt slot so that the bolt has limited sliding movement and the roller 7 co-operates with the mouth of the staple or keeper 28 to act as a yielding catch, the door being opened or closed by pulling or pushing a fixed bow handle 27, but when the handle 12 is depressed the roller 21 engages the rearwardly inclined portion 17 of the bolt slot and cams the bolt-roller 7 further into the keeper and holds it there so that the bolt acts as a, dead-locking bolt. A catch 23 pivoted at 24 is provided to hold the handle 12 normally in its raised position. The bolt may carry an apertured member 25 which, when the bolt is in locking position, registers with a similar member 26 fixed on the casing, to receive a padlock. As shown. handle 12 is mounted on a spindle having a pivotal bearing 10 in the casing, extending through a slot 9 in the bolt and through the door, and carrying a second handle 13. The part of the spindle in slot 9 has a roller 14. An antifriction. roller 8 against which the bolt bears is provided on the casing. The keeper 28 has a striking surface 30 and an inclined socket 31 which cams the door 1 tightly on to its seating 32 when the bolt is shot to deadlocking position and also, during withdrawal of the bolt. initiates unseating of the door.
