[Class 44] A latch particularly for refrigerator and like doors has means associated with the handle for adjusting the position of the nose of the latch with respect to the striking plate or keeper. Fig. 1 shows latch mechanism concealed between the rear and front panels 2, 3 of a door and comprising a latch, with flat surface 10 and curved surface 13, which engages keeper 11 mounted on the door jamb 12. and is pivoted at 5 between lugs on a channel member 4 secured to the rear face of panel 3. The latch is urged to engaged position by a compression spring 9, and is retracted by a lever 14 bearing against a roller 16 carried by the latch member when pulled anti-clockwise by operation of the handle. Lever 14 is biassed clockwise by a spring 25. Fig. 2 shows the handle 21 pivotally mounted at one end of a base-plate 22 secured to the outer face of panel 3 to swing in a plane perpendicular to the panel, a rear portion 23 of the handle normally lying against the base-plate. Outward movement of the handle is communicated to lever 14 by a link 18 having a spherical enlargement 20 at its inner end bearing against the lever and a nut 24 at its outer end bearing against part 23 of the handle. The nut serves for adjustment of position of latch surface 13 with respect to the striker portion of keeper 11 and is normally concealed by a removable cover 27.
