Abstract
441,891. Supports for electric incandescent lamp filaments. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, and CHELIOTI, G., Osram - G.E.C. Lamp Works, Brook Green, Hammersmith, both in London. Sept. 12, 1934, No. 26199. [Class 39 (ii)] In the manufacture of a stem for supporting the elongated filament of a tubular electric incandescent lamp the filament supporting wires 3 are inserted at intervals into a glass rod 1 which is softened by the flame from a needle burner 2 and also heated by localized flames 7 directed from a burner 6 on to the opposite side of the stem into which no support wires are sealed. The rod 1 is moved intermittently longitudinally from left to right and receives the jet of flame from the burner 2 during its stationary periods, a filamentsupporting wire 3 being inserted automatically by a member 4 when the glass has softened sufficiently, and at the same time the needle flame is interrupted by a heat resistant deflector 5 which is also advanced by the machine.
