Abstract

438,417. Electric discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. July 29, 1935, No. 21515. Convention date, July 28, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] [See also Group XI] In a sodium or like electric discharge lamp which is surrounded by a double - walled globe 6, exhausted or filled with carbon dioxide, argon or other gas of low heat conductivity an asbestos or like thermo-insulative refractory gasket 35 is arranged around the neck 9 of the lamp 7 substantially in line with a disc 18 made of similar material and adapted to exclude hot sodium vapour from the neck 9 of the lamp. This neck is exhausted by means of a fine tube 19 passing through the disc 18 and adapted to be sealed by condensed sodium. The current leads 13 also pass through the disc 18 and are connected to a pair of hollow electrodes 14 comprising nickel tubes coated with barium oxide or like electron-emissive substance, and indirectly heated by internal, tungsten resistance coils 17 which are connected by a wire 15.
