[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 19, 1934.] [Class 50] Wood or other cellulosic carbonizable substance. such as seaweeds, seeds, ground nuts and waste is distilled and partly carbonized between 280 and 600‹ C. and, after a slow cooling in the retort, is pulverized. The powder is kneaded with up to 5 per cent of magnesia and the granular product pressed into blocks.
