553,435. Fertilizers from sewage. ALLDAY, C. J. Aug. 16, 1941, No. 10458. [Class 111] Fertilizers are obtained from sewage by absorbing the sewage on an absorbent material, drying and re-absorbing, the process being repeated at least three times, whereby a product is obtained having a predetermined plant food content which approximates to that of the sewage as the number of stages is increased. Absorbent materials mentioned are dried sewage itself, dried soil, clay, chalk, gypsum, peat and soot. The sewage may be acidified, before absorption, with a small quantity of sulphuric or nitric acid and oily or greasy matter removed by skimming. The drying may be effected by artificial heat or by exposure to atmosphere.
