Abstract

Fertilizer material is obtained by mixing partially dehydrated sewage sludge with comminuted town refuse, press forming the mixture and drying the pressed forms obtained. The partially dehydrated sewage sludge may have a water content of 60 to 80% by weight, and the mixture of sludge and refuse may have a water content of not more than 55% by weight. The mixture may be pressed at a temperature above 60 DEG C., at a pressure sufficient to reduce the material to one half to one-third of its original volume without exudation of water. The pressed forms may be dried by storage in air. The dried material may be moistened before use to initiate microbial activity, and the material added to soil or compost heaps.
