Carbon.-A decolorizing and deodorizing carbon is obtained by heating organic materials such as sugars, gums, fecula, starch, cellulose, waste skins, leather, wool, peat, and lignite with phosphoric acid. An example shows the impregnation of wood shavings with phosphoric acid and carbonization at about 400‹ C. The product is washed to remove the phosphoric acid, dried, and pulverized.
