Abstract

292,566. Schreiner, A. June 22, 1927, [Convention date]. Carbon.-Active charcoal is obtained from wood, peat, lignite, spent liquor of organic nature, and from other carbonaceous substances, by impregnation with solutions of potassium thiocyanate or potassium ferrocyanide and subsequently carbonizing in absence of air. The impregnated product is dried and distilled at 300‹ C. to 350‹ C. It is then heated in the absence of air to a bright red heat for half an hour and after cooling is leached with water or hydrochloric acid. The raw carbonaceous material may be first distilled and then impregnated and further heated in the absence of air as above. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) other alkali or alkaline-earth salts of thiocyanic acid may be used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
