Composition fuel.-A metallurgical carbon is produced by impregnating charcoal or lignite with sodium or other nitrate, or an alkaline borate, or a mixture thereof. The wood may first be dried and then gradually heated in a closed vessel to not over 200-250‹ C., a brown charcoal being obtained which is then sprayed with the nitrate or borate or mixed solution and the heating continued to drive off the water. The material is next crushed out. The nitrate may be added in the solid state to the charcoal, admixture being effected by crushing.
