Abstract

222,449. Du Boistesselin, H. Sept. 28, 1923, [Convention date]. Composition fuel.-In agglomerating small coal and other powdered fuel reducing or hydrolyzable. sugars, their closely related transformation products, or materials containing them, are treated with sulphuric acid and employed as a binder, the briquettes being heated to a temperature lower than the coking temperature of the binder. In one example 12 parts of dextrine are dissolved in 20 parts of water to which are added 6 parts of sulphuric acid containing 92 per cent of monohvdrate. The solution is introduced into 400 parts of small anthracite and the mass heated to below 80‹ C. and agglomerated. The agglomerates are heated to 130‹ C. to 135‹ C. Other examples relate to the use of glucose and molasses. The resistance of the agglomerates leaving the press is increased by heating the mass before agglomeration to a temperature not exceeding 80‹ C. Ferrous sulphate in the proportion of 6 to 15 per cent of the sugar used may also be added to cause a rapid hardening of the agglomerates. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of cellulose waste such as spinning waste, cotton seed fibres, or down. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
