June 21, 1934, No. 18305. Convention date, June 21, 1933. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal release for an automatic switch consists of a heating.coil surround ed by a curved bimetallic strip. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the bimetallic strip 1 is curved to form almost a complete cylinder substantially enclosing the heating coil 2 within which is disposed a hollow cylindrical core S of ceramic material. One end of the bimetallic strip is secured to a fixed support 3 the other end 1<a> on being brought into engagement with a plate or pin 4 to cause the tripping of a switch when the strip is heated sufficiently. To vary the value of the tripping current the coil may be changed or may be connected in series with the switch. The cylindrical core may also be replaced by one of a different weight or differently finished surface.
